“The only royal road for Europe is peace. Peace is not just one option among others, nor the opportunistic choice of hypocritical pacifism at the last minute. Peace is a total, profound and revolutionary process, which guarantees civil, social and political rights equally available to all.” These are the words it begins with the appeal of the Lucca Peace Forum, in view of the European elections.
“Peace is the only possible choice: if we want to stop the arms race, if we want to build a Europe of rights and equality, if we want to avoid definitive environmental collapse, if we want to guarantee a future for future generations. For this reason, we propose and ask for support a European project which, following the indications of Article 11 of our Constitution, undertakes to implement the following guidelines: the European Union undertakes to take all the measures and initiatives necessary to establish a supranational system that guarantees peace and justice; the European Union is committed to reducing expenditure on weapons production and increasing social spending on health and education; the European Union is committed to strengthening theUnited Nations Organization (UN) as a political and diplomatic mediator in conflict situations”.
“As a Peace Forum – concludes the appeal – we believe that only a commitment to peace and justice makes any European future possible and credible and, by virtue of this conviction, we ask you to vote for the political forces that share and support this project”.
