PERUGIA – Four candidates for mayor of Perugia have accepted the invitation of the rector of the University for Foreigners of Perugia Valerio De Cesaris to symbolically plant some trees on the university campus: Leonardo Caponi, Vittoria Ferdinandi, Massimo Monni and Margherita Scoccia have so he took up the shovel and helped the students plant some trees in the green area in front of the buildings on the Unistrapg campus.
Just a week after the vote, the initiative desired by the rector aimed to draw the attention of the future administrator of the Umbrian capital to the issues of the environment and sustainability, which are particularly dear to the Palazzo Gallenga university. «We want to ask for your commitment to the environment and to make the most of what this city offers – said the rector – and in order to live it in a healthy way we need to make effective sustainability projects».
The planting of the saplings therefore symbolically signed the candidates’ commitment to promoting policies that respect ecosystems, both in an environmental, energetic and productive sense. «Perugia is a university city – continued De Cesaris – and students, both Italian and foreign, constitute an important component of the city’s social structure, to which space for proposals and participation must be offered».
The students present at the event also expressed to the candidates the hope that an effective and non-episodic dialogue will be established between Palazzo dei Priori and the young component of the city, both for the development of a widespread environmental culture and for listening to requests of the many under 30s bring every dimension to life.
