European elections, Gelmini in Benevento: “Action is the home of moderates and a strong liberal area to stem sovereignism”

Maria Stella Gelmini arrives in Benevento to crown an intense election day in Campania. Welcomed by the provincial secretary Vizzi Sguera, she introduces her standard bearers Luigi Casciello and Barbara Preziosi, the former minister and current national deputy secretary of Action immediately cleared away the preambles. “It is necessary to go and vote on June 8th and 9th, even more so if we intend to give strength and vigor to the construction of a liberal, reformist, moderate center which is the expression of a large segment of Italians who do not appreciate shouted politics but who instead glimpse the need for a political entity that puts the South at the center of the European agenda and breaks down the still strong gaps between different areas of the country and the continent”.

No look at the past, at the lack of liaison with Matteo Renzi, whose relationships are torn and with whom the fracture was very bitter. And no indulgence in the great cauldron of political cultures, even divergent ones, which is the United States of Europe. “Action aims to become the true home of Italian moderates,” says Gemini, “but work and application will be needed” and essentially does not stop at the mere electoral objective of exceeding the 4% threshold. “Calenda is sure that we will get to 5”, Berlusconi’s former minister says with a touch of emphasis, but to fixate on that result, in Gelmini’s opinion, devalues the real objective which is the political and meta-electoral one of giving voice to a silent majority that abhors the sovereignist plans of those who now govern the country.
