He suffered burns to 60 percent of his body. A 37-year-old worker from Fano, GC, was involved in a terrible accident at work last Wednesday while he was working on a yacht in the port of Fano. Once again work reveals its most insidious side and once again it is a young worker who pays the price, as happened, again last week, to 33-year-old Simone Mezzolani who lost his life while carrying out maintenance on a Fab machine of Petriano.
The 37-year-old from Fano, an employee of a shipyard in Fano, Filippetti Yacht, had been called to intervene on a yacht where there were problems with the hot water supply. The young man was in the maintenance compartment, a narrow space located on the lower floor of the boat. Technicians from the workplace safety prevention service of the AST of Fano intervened on site and investigated the dynamics.
From the first reconstructions it seems that the worker, when cutting the pipe which appeared to be blocked, was invaded by a large quantity of hot water which leaked due to the high pressure. Probably the clothes he was wearing, due to the very high temperature, remained stuck to him, causing a very extensive burn, 60 percent of his body, according to the doctors. The young man was transported to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena where he is still under a guarded prognosis. His condition has improved a little in recent days.
And in the meantime the social partners will be involved in a summit tomorrow to discuss issues related to safety. In fact, a technical table on health and safety has been convened in the Prefecture for tomorrow. Unions, institutions and employers’ organizations will take stock of a dramatically current issue. The meeting with all the parties involved which will take place tomorrow had been loudly requested by CGIL and UIL during the strike on 11 April by a delegation that went to the Prefecture and, subsequently, after the tragic accident in Petriano which cost the life of Simone Mezzolani, with a joint statement from CGIL, CISL and UIL.
