The story of how Andrea Favero, the 38-year-old truck driver from Vigonza killed his partner on May 29th Giada Zanola, 34 years old originally from Brescia, it is a sequence of lucid horror. I “grabbed her at the knees, lifted with force and pushed her down over the parapet”, so the woman would fly off the overpass between the lanes of the A4 Padua – Venice motorway. That night, according to the reconstruction given to the flying squad agents, the two were both above the red step which significantly reduces the height of the parapet.
The first confession
According to what the truck driver declared during spontaneous statements at the police station, that tragic night the woman had left the house where the two had lived before she asked for a break. She had a new partner and soon she would go with him to work at a petrol station. Favero didn’t accept this new life, he saw it as a point of no return for their relationship and so a heated argument arose. After the argument, therefore, Giada had set off towards the nearby overpass on foot to take her life, this she would have confided when leaving the house to her ex. “She insulted me and told me that she would never let me see our son again,” the man reports.
The retraction
In the precautionary custody decree in prison the judge Laura Alcaro cites the admissions made by the man to the officers, underlining however that in front of the deputy prosecutor Giorgio Falcone and alongside the public defender assigned to him, the truck driver recanted everything, stating only that his mind stopped the moment Giada was on the parapet. Afterwards, the memory freezes. And here the hypothesis of her suicide comes into play and that the woman alone climbed over the parapet to throw herself into the void. Her body fell on the asphalt and was then hit by passing vehicles. The toxicological tests and the final autopsy report are now decisive.
The weighing of the body
Another examination was carried out on the body, namely the weighing of the body to understand whether Favero’s build is compatible with lifting the victim. It is not excluded that kinetic tests will be carried out. It will then take a month to understand whether the 33-year-old was drugged (also given her fear that it could happen): this scenario would lead to the hypothesis of a premeditated crime.
