The experience of “Le Lazzarelle” Cooperative In the Pozzuoli women’s prisonfor coffee roasting, had been going on since 2010, but now, following the strong tremors of May 20th which undermined the safety of the structure and forced the transfer of the inmates (click here for details), it risks closing permanently.
An appeal to find an alternative solution comes from the PD Senator and Presidential Secretary of the Senate, Valeria Valentethat remembers: “This activity within the Pozzuoli prison makes the principle of the re-educational function of punishment concrete, and represents a positive national model, so much so that it has been awarded by the President of the Republic. It cannot and must not close. Precisely because I believe very much in this project, I appeal to all the institutions, and in particular to the Ministry of Justice, so that we can arrive, as soon as possible, at the creation of an alternative solution – which has already been identified – so that the roasting of Lazzarelle continues his precious commitment“.
With the current interruption of activities in the Pozzuoli prison, the only roasting activity of Lazzarella coffee remains that of Bistro inside the Prince of Naples Gallery.
