TURIN In the ecological transition Bologna is in first place among the metropolitan areas, followed by Florence and Turin, with Reggio Calabria, Palermo and Catania closing the ranking. This is stated in the second report on the ecological transition produced by Censis in collaboration with Green&Blue, which follows the first edition published in 2022. Presented during the Green&Blue Festival of the Gedi content hub, the report shows the ecological transition process elaborated through interviews and a metric exclusive: the Green&Blue Index, an index for all 107 Italian provinces, aggregated together by size.
Among the provinces with more than 500 thousand inhabitants, Bolzano remains in the lead, already in first place in the 2022 report, with Trento and Vicenza behind it, and the provinces of Udine and Lecce at the bottom. Among the medium-sized provinces, Pordenone and Potenza are at the top, while Benevento and La Spezia are at the top of the small provinces with less than 300 thousand inhabitants. If you look at the individual indicators: Messina presents one of the highest variations in the period 2013-2023 in the number of active green companies, or, again, it ranks among the first in containing land consumption in areas with high hydraulic danger.
Cagliari occupies top positions in the separate collection service for urban waste and in the net production of energy from renewable sources. Benevento, among small cities, stands out for the results obtained in the “business” category thanks to the high demand for green jobs.
