In an accident that occurred around 12 noon today, June 3, on the state road 118 between Prizzi and Palazzo Adriano, a 20-year-old young man, Dario Mortellaro, from Santo Stefano di Quisquina, in the province of Agrigento, died. A car, a Daihatsu Terios, and an articulated lorry collided at the crossroads for Palazzo Adriano. There was nothing that could be done for the motorist.
The 118 health workers intervened and rescued the motorist and the Corleone firefighters pulled the boy out of the wreckage. The medical staff could not help but confirm the death of the twenty-year-old.
The police arrived on site to identify the victim and carry out investigations to understand the exact dynamics of the accident.
The news of Dario Mortellaro’s death has thrown the entire community of Santo Stefano Quisquina into deep despair. Many knew the 20-year-old, son of a former municipal councilor and a teacher at the comprehensive school. His father, Pippo Mortellaro, who died following a heart attack only a few years ago, had also been school secretary and during his involvement in politics he had been highly esteemed and appreciated.
Among the first to share their condolences for the loss of the young man is the mayor of Santo Stefano di Quisquina, Francesco Cacciatore: «Disbelief, pain, dismay in the face of news that is always difficult to accept. Dario was a cheerful boy, driven by the desire to do, with many passions. It doesn’t take much to make us all feel part of the same family which, in this moment of immense pain, feels stunned, incredulous, helpless. We embrace Giuseppina and Maria Francesca and all their families with affection. Citizen mourning will be proclaimed in conjunction with the funeral ceremony.” A young man who had many dreams, Dario studied physical education at university and loved sport, he had also participated in weightlifting competitions.
