SAN LORENZO IN CAMPO Parents of autistic children raise a protest against the municipal administration for the management of the marine summer camps in June. The registration deadline ended on May 31st with a controversy from two mothers who claimed not to have been accepted in their request to admit their children with autistic disorder.

«I understand the usual problems that arise in these cases such as the lack of an educator capable of following my son but we believe that it is not right to leave us alone and above all to actually create discrimination which could then weigh on my child’s growth and personality. son”, declared a parent who prefers that his name and that of his son be protected while respecting privacy and extremely delicate health conditions. «My son has the right to participate in the marine summer camps like everyone else – underlines the parent – ​​but our request was not accepted, we asked for a discussion both with the social services and with the competent councilor who asked us that we could only enroll our son if we were able to pay an additional 500 euros. This behavior has put us in an embarrassing situation and we don’t think it’s fair to my son who, although suffering from autistic disorder and therefore in need of pedagogical support, cannot also go and play together with the other children at the Torrette seaside colony of Fano”.

In the request for participation in the marine colonies, reference is made to ISEE benefits spread over three weeks and depending on the ISEE income brackets (from 0 to 15 thousand euros, from 15 thousand to 25 thousand, from 25 thousand to 35 thousand euros and from 35 thousand to without ISEE). The maximum number of children that can be enrolled is 55. «What we ask – continues the parent – ​​is that the Municipality and the institutions can support us more, even with home care, because ours and I speak for others too are family experiences very difficult and delicate in which the growth of these children should never be treated by creating exclusions.”

Alternative solutions

The municipal administration with the mayor Davide Dellonti specifies that «alternative activities have also been proposed, taking into account that managing children in a seaside colony requires a different and more demanding commitment than a prolonged summer centre».
