Today a delegation of the M5S at the demonstration in front of the Prefecture of Lecce: do not privatize southern water

A delegation of the M5S composed of the deputy Patty L’Abbate, Vice President of the Environment Commission at the Chamber of Deputies, the regional councilor Cristian Casili, the senator Antonio Trevisi, the candidate for the European Parliament Maria Anna Labarile, the candidates for the city council and the representatives of the territorial group of Lecce took part in the demonstration this morning in front of the Prefecture of Lecce to say no to cuts in resources to the Municipalities and against the Government’s decision to challenge the regional law for the management of public water.

“We cannot accept – declares the Hon. Patty L’Abbate – any attempt on the part

of the Meloni government to privatize water in the South. Ours is a battle for citizens, because guaranteeing public water means offering them the best service and adequate tariffs. We cannot accept that water management can be sold off to multinationals interested only in profit and we have reiterated this loudly today too. A choice that would also risk having repercussions for workers, given that current employment levels would not be guaranteed.”

“We voted with conviction – declares Casili – in the regional council for the law to keep water and its management public, a text we arrived at after several hearings. The law can be amended, but one principle must be clear: we will not lend ourselves to any changes that could put public water at risk. Having challenged the law together with the cuts to resources for the Municipalities will have negative repercussions on the economic and social level and on the lives of citizens. We will continue to defend our territory in all appropriate locations without retreating an inch.”
