Padel, Open Fitp Palermo: success for the Calneggia-Tamame couple

Rome, 3 June. (askanews) – The scream of the Argentine Cristian Calneggia and that of the Italian talent Paola Ciabattoni arrive a few minutes apart from each other: the former won the second stage of the Mediolanum Padel Cup paired with ‘El Mago’ German Tamame beating the number one seeds Del Moral-Cremona in the final (7/6, 1/6, 6/4). The second, Paola Ciabattoni, paired with her new partner Clarissa Aima, wins the women’s event in three sets, beating the number one in the tournament Meccico-Giacquinta (7/6, 5/7, 6/4).

Added to the late summer heat was the warmth of the public which translated into a sensational sold out at the Palermo Country Club. A last-gasp day full of enthusiasm: the semi-finals in the morning of the FITP Open, the finals in the afternoon. One of the most awaited moments saw the four football legends as protagonists who faced each other in a mini friendly tournament. Simone Barone, Marco Amelia, Vincent Candela and Stefano Fiore (the final winner) challenged each other with “vìbora” and “bandeja” and for the first two it was also an opportunity to remember their past with the rosanero shirt. “I am very attached to Palermo, it is my second home,” said Barone. “I remain a fan of the team and I hope that next year is the right one to return to Serie A.” Words of affection also came from Amelia: “I would have stayed in Palermo forever, I was very sorry to leave. But I return to the city every year, I have friends here and the people never lack affection for me”. The Country stage closed Time Club in Palermo with a sold out audience, now it will be Bari’s turn, from 8 to 14 July, while the stages in Rome, Pescara and Milan will take place between next September and November.
