The “Salerno brand” continues to demonstrate its effectiveness, attracting a growing number of Italian and foreign tourists. Yesterday too the city was invaded by visitors, confirming the attractiveness of an area which, awaiting the opening of the new airport, has been able to carve out an important place for itself in the national and international tourist circuits.
A significant contribution comes from cruise tourism, which promises another favorable season for Salerno. In the morning, over 2 thousand visitors, many of them Americans, disembarked from the Celebrity Constellation. Numerous tourists flocked to the ferries to the Amalfi Coast, while others preferred to enjoy a stroll through the streets of the city centre.
However, despite the growing tourist success, some critical issues persist in reception which require urgent interventions. One of the main problems concerns the number of shops closed in the city center during public holidays. This has limited shopping and entertainment options for tourists, creating an unwelcoming image for a city that aspires to be a leading tourist destination.
Furthermore, the public transport service proved to be insufficient, especially on holidays. It was observed that many tourists who disembarked from cruise ships were forced to walk long distances, such as the journey to Arechi Castle, due to the lack of adequate means of transport. This has given rise to many complaints and highlighted the need to strengthen connections and improve the usability of the main sites of interest.
As underlined several times, now that Salerno is to all intents and purposes a tourist city, it is necessary to make an additional effort to improve reception levels. The influx of tourists is constantly growing and the bar of expectations has been raised accordingly. However, the services offered are not yet up to these expectations.
Local authorities must intervene to strengthen public transport, guarantee the opening of shops during periods of greatest tourist influx and improve reception services overall. Only in this way will Salerno be able to consolidate its position in the international tourism panorama and offer a satisfying and memorable experience to visitors from all over the world.
