A “solidarity room” inaugurated in the Brindisi court

BRINDISI – A “solidarity room”, where magistrates, lawyers, law enforcement and administrative staff will be able to place items to support people in difficulty. The restaurant was inaugurated this morning (Monday 3 June) on the ground floor of the Brindisi court. The promoter of the initiative is the National Association of Magistrates, subsection of Brindisi.

The capital has more than 200 people in conditions of absolute poverty, that is, people who are unable to independently obtain even one meal from the government. These are people of different nationalities and origins but also, to a large extent, Italian citizens, some of whom have been severely defeated by the Covid 19 pandemic.

The sixteen parishes of the city of Brindisi take turns providing one meal a day to these people, who, also for this purpose, have come together in the “Parrocchie solidali Brindisi” association, a third sector body, with the main aim of support the daily canteen for the poor in collaboration with the diocesan Caritas of Brindisi and Ostuni.

Caritas supports the soup kitchen by taking on, among other things, the expenses for the daily supply of bread and for the purchase of the so-called furnishings, i.e. plates, glasses, napkins, cutlery and, above all, plastic trays. aluminum in which food is provided daily to over 200 people in conditions of absolute poverty.

The initiative provides that anyone who wishes, including magistrates, lawyers, administrative staff and members of the police force, can also purchase a limited quantity of furnishings and deposit it in a dedicated area, called “place of solidarity”, located on the ground floor of the Court of Brindisi.
The amount collected will be given to the Caritas bursar on a weekly basis.

The inauguration, which took place in a sober manner, took place in the presence of the archbishop of Brindisi – Ostuni Monsignor Giovanni Intini, the president of the court, Vincenzo Scardia, and the public prosecutor, Antonio De Donno, as well as representatives of the Parish Association in solidarity (Don Adriano Miglietta, Don Massimo Mengasi and Don Pierino Manzo) and of the president and secretary of the Brindisi ANM subsection, Antonio Natali.
