The Monza Power Run, the most fun and solidarity race of the year, returns on 20 and 21 July

The countdown has begun. The organizers are already at work. The tenth edition of the Monza Power Run will take place on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July, the funniest and most fun non-competitive charity race of the year which takes place in the name of solidarity. The event is organized by the Lele Forever ODV association, present in the area since 2001. And in the name of Lele, who passed away prematurely due to leukemia, the proceeds are donated to support the fight against this terrible disease. Since 2013, the year of the first edition of the Monza Power Run, more than 350,000 euros have been raised and used to support research, equip the San Gerardo Adult Hematology department with new technologies and provide for the maintenance and efficiency of the “Lele e Lory” and “Lele 2” which host the families of the sick during periods of therapy in the Monza hospitals. With the proceeds of last year’s Monza Power Run, the Association donated a scholarship of 30,000 euros to a young doctor carrying out his internship at the San Gerardo Hospital in the Adult Hematology department. To give fun and smiles to the participants and certainly also to Lele and the many people watching from up there, the Monza Power Run is characterized by light-heartedness, color and extravagance. You don’t show up at the start with the classic runner’s outfit, but with over-the-top clothing: you wear more or less well-known masks, bizarre costumes created from your own imagination, camouflage suits or Spiderman knit socks, you show up in “bad” (but the heart is gold!) or from Baywatch.

And then there is the race, the invitation to overcome oneself and various spectacular obstacles that represent the difficulties of life but which, with a dose of courage and good will, can be overcome. The concept is to have fun and help each other to go “beyond the obstacle”, as the event motto says; this is why there are more and more companies that include the Power Run among the events in which to participate in Team Building. We start from the center of Villasanta, this year we pass through San Fiorano, and enter the park, but along the way you encounter everything: jumps, climbs, fords, steps, slides with water and foam, mud, straw bales , electric shock and more. And there will be no shortage of surprises, the organizers warn. The 12 kilometer race (with 20 obstacles) dedicated to those who are a little more fit will start on Saturday 20 July at 6pm. The next day between 5 and 6 pm the heats of the participants in the 6 kilometers (with 10-11 obstacles) will start. To register you must be at least 18 years old.

A medical certificate is not needed. Upon arrival, neither winners nor losers will be declared. All participants are considered winners because the Monza Power Run is not a race but an opportunity to have fun, to be together and do good. And everyone will be given a commemorative medal which this year will be made of wood. There will be no shortage of recognition for the largest groups, for those who present the most eye-catching outfit, for the less young participants. For a few years this last coveted prize has been the prerogative of a lady in her seventies who comes specifically from Switzerland by train to try her hand at the various obstacles. And those who don’t run will be able to immerse themselves in the pleasant atmosphere of the event by stopping in the MPR Village in Piazza Europa where there will be the Street Runners Party: two days of celebration with concerts, entertainment shows, food trucks to enjoy excellent street food. There are three hundred and twenty volunteers involved in both the logistical and project organisation. Many are young people who make their enthusiasm and energy available in a beautiful atmosphere of friendship and collaboration.
