Chandeliers swaying and a dull noise, but fortunately no significant consequences after the earthquake that hit the Romagna coast
At 11.03pm yesterday, Wednesday 12 June, one earthquake of magnitude 3.5 hit the Romagna coastwith its epicenter in the sea off the coast of Riccione. According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 6 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt distinctly by residents and tourists of Rimini, Riccione and the surrounding areas, extending up to Pesaro and the neighboring towns of Vallefoglia and Montelabbate. The earthquake caused considerable fear among the population, especially among those who were on the upper floors of the buildings on the Romagna coast.
Fortunately, no damage to people or structures was reported
There were numerous comments on social media in the minutes immediately following the earthquake, with many people describing their experience, talking about swaying chandeliers and a dull noise that preceded the tremor.
Fortunately, at the moment there has been no damage to people or structures. The earthquake, although of moderate intensity, in fact it did not cause any significant damage, but only a lot of fear among those who felt it. Civil protection and local authorities monitored the situation, reassuring citizens of the lack of serious consequences.
This seismic event is only the latest in a series of earthquakes that have affected the region in recent years. The area of the Romagna coast, although not one of the areas with the highest seismic risk in Italy, is nevertheless subject to occasional telluric activity. INGV experts continue to monitor the situation, keeping their attention high on possible further aftershocks.
