It will be Monsignor Marino Mosconicurrently archiepiscopal chancellor, the new parish priest of Monza cathedral and archpriest of the city. This was communicated by Monsignor Michele Ellilocal episcopal vicar, with a letter that was read to the faithful at the end of the religious services on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.

Born in Milan in 1964, Monsignor Mosconi obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy and a licentiate and doctorate from the faculty of canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University. He is a professor at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy and at the San Pio X Faculty of Canon Law in Venice. He is a judge of the regional ecclesiastical court and of the metropolitan court of Milan. This is his first assignment at the helm of a parish.

The arrival of the new archpriest is scheduled for early September. Archbishop Mario Delpini asked the current archpriest, Monsignor Silvano Provasi, to continue to exercise his ministry at the service of the faithful. While continuing to reside in the parish of the cathedral, Provasi it will be used to help the nearby pastoral community Ascension of the Lordwhich includes the parishes of San Biagio, Santa Gemma and San Pio X.

The new appointment was officially communicated on the weekend of 1 and 2 June, on the eve of the solemnity of Corpus Christi, it comes after Provasi himself resigned last February, upon turning 75in compliance with the synod indications for parish priests.

Monsignor Silvano Provasi held the position of archpriest of Monza for seventeen yearshad arrived in Monza in 2007 after having been parish priest in Busto Arsizio from 1991 to 2000 and vicar for the fifth pastoral area of Monza from 2000 until 2007.

To commemorate his fifty years of priestly ordination, Monsignor Provasi will preside at a mass in the cathedral on 9 Juneat 10.30, in the presence of the city authorities.
