FIRST HALF
First study period for the two teams who don’t know their opponent well and study their moves. Modica starts with good management, does not risk anything behind and studies the home team’s way of playing. The first real opportunity only came in the 33rd minute with Palermo launching Cacciola, who put it in the middle for Savasta who all alone sent it high. In the 40th minute the hosts tried with Pisani who tried a shot from outside and caught a deflection from Trovato, but the rossoblù goalkeeper was not fooled and saved.
SECOND HALF
In the second half Modica immediately took the lead with Palmisano, the midfielder was found in the middle by a splendid cross from Palermo and didn’t think twice about sending it with his head into the corner. In the 13th minute Sicilian top scorer Savasta tries again, this time his header from Cacciola’s cross hits the crossbar. In the 18th minute the home team came out and Ciccarelli also hit the crossbar with a free kick. Another thrill in the 27th minute with Parisi putting a ball behind for Strano, the midfielder doesn’t think twice and shoots towards goal but his ball hits the crossbar. In the 38th minute another great opportunity for Modica with Alfieri who sees Ballatore’s cut and serves it, in the area the rossoblu full-back stops and shoots with a sure shot, Mazzarella is ready and sends it into the corner. At the end the referee called 6′ of injury time, the hosts tried to get their heads out and throw themselves forward but the visiting defense was ready and thwarted any danger until the final whistle.
On June 9th the return match in Modica to close the qualification against a team that up to now had an average of 3.13 goals per game and that had never finished a match at home without conceding a goal. A sumptuous match by the rossoblu who will be called upon to respond to the “Vincenzo Barone”.
