Marco Allegretti, candidate of the 5 Star Movement in the Piedmont regional elections, is under investigation for fraud. He writes it Republic, specifying that there are two files open against him: one at the Asti prosecutor’s office, the other at the Turin prosecutor’s office. The investigations would concern in particular his research activities and tax credits for a huge scam that emerged from an audit by the Revenue Agency. The lines of the investigation, he specifies Republic, there are two. One concerns the attempt to hide 23 buildings in Asti and six in Turin to avoid a collection procedure involving over two million euros of dispute. The other strand concerns tax credits. Drawing from the degree theses of the students of the Polytechnic of Turin and from the university projects sold “in packages” to companies, Allegretti would have obtained a part of the 50 percent deductions.
In addition to being a candidate with the 5 Star Movement, Allegretti is a university researcher and president of the Order of Engineers of Asti. In February 2023, he was removed from his position as director of Finpiemonte for an alleged violation of the code of ethics. A decision that Allegretti had branded as “exquisitely political”, specifying that he had “never omitted anything”. The matter ended with the archiving of the file opened by prosecutor Giovanni Caspani. In May 2024, he is still writing Republic, the financial police searched Allegretti, his father, the historic accountant, a professor from the Polytechnic of Turin and a researcher. «During the investigations – we read in a document from the prosecutors – it emerged that the suspects had hatched a complex corporate and contractual scheme aimed at removing the assets of Alma Engineering Srl from the tax authorities».
