On Wednesday (5 June) the Carabinieri will celebrate the 210th anniversary of its foundation throughout Italy. In Lucca, where the royal carabinieri arrived in 1860, in the current Cortile degli Svizzeri barracks, the anniversary will be celebrated in Piazza Napoleonewith a ceremony starting at 10 a.m in the presence of the prefect Giusi Scaduto and the leaders of the city institutions and over 100 students from the schools of the province.

The foundation of the Carabinieri dates back to 13 July 1814, when King Vittorio Emanuele I, with Royal Patenti, established the Royal Carabinieri, a body of soldiers “distinguished for good conduct and wisdom” who, in addition to contributing to the defense of the State in times of war, they were in times of peace “specially charged with ensuring the preservation of public and private safety”. A dual function that the Crabinieri still retain: the defense of the State as an armed force and the defense of citizens, as a police force.

The ceremony will take place with a deployment of representative platoons and vintage Carabinieri vehicles. In particular they will be deployed, thanks to the availability of Club Balestrero of Lucca, unique examples that are part of the history of the weapon:
6 cars (Aprilia cabriolet Graber from 1935; Fiat 508 Balilla Spider from 1934; Alfa Romeo AR 51 from 1950. This car was assigned to the army together with 7 others for mountain territoriality, and later they were all allocated to the first carabinieri battalion Tuscania paratroopers for special missions; Fiat 1100/103 Camionetta from 1951; Fiat 900 T Pulmino from 1965/1975; Gazzella Alfa Romeo Giulia Super from 1972), 6 motorcycles in use between 1938 and 1942 and two bicycles, a Bianchi model 1908 in use by the royal carabinieri during the First World War and a Bianchi model 1912, in service at the beginning of the twentieth century.

In Piazza Napoleone there will also be a picket of 18 historical uniforms used by the Carabinieri from 1916 to 1987.
At the end of the ceremony, the vintage vehicles will be on display, together with various latest generation cars and motorbikes from the Carabinieri, until 7pm.

The provincial commander, Colonel Arturo Sessa, and all the carabinieri hope for a large participation of citizens.
