PADUA – A long applause accompanied yesterday morning at Palazzo Santo Stefano the presentation by the prefect Francesco Messina and the mayor Sergio Giordani of the honor of Grand Officer to the Director of the School of Specialization in Cardiac Surgery Gino Gerosa. Also during the ceremony for the awarding of the Honors of the Order “of Merit of the Italian Republic”, 7 other people from Padua were awarded. The president of Altavia Ira Stefano Bellon was thus appointed Official.

Republic Day
«Republic Day is not only a day of celebration and remembrance of the past but also an opportunity to think about the future of our country – said the mayor – This is the reason why, starting from a reflection of the presidency of the Cariparo Foundation, and shared by us, this year we have promoted, alongside the official celebrations for Republic Day, a extensive program of events and initiatives designed and implemented directly by city associations. We have done it and we will do it in the future, because we want June 2nd to be a Republic Day that sees the people of Padua participate not only as spectators, but as protagonists of an important moment for the whole community.”
Events
Indeed, throughout the day, various events were held in every corner of the city. Among these the Puppet Show “L’Inno di Mameli” in the square of via Scuole alla Guizza, the river parade with a stop at the Portello and the Porte Contarine, the Cai Choir concert at the Alicorno bastion, the Open Day and the extraordinary opening of the Alisolidali solidarity emporium in via Piovese and the tricolor bicycle ride starting from the Gatta bastion. Closing the day was the Concert for the Republic Day at Palazzo Della Ragione. An initiative supported by the Cariparo Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality. The event saw the participation of the soprano Daniela Schillaci, the baritone Bruno Taddia and the actor Vasco Mirandola, who gave voice to some historical texts relating to the Risorgimento, with Marco Angius on the podium of the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto .
