Brescia-Monte Magno speaks South American with Cruz Martinez

Keep his name in mind: Edward Cruz Martinezdirectly from Colombia for the first career success as a Junior in the 37th edition of the Brescia Monte Magno.

Since the Brescia race can boast a highly prestigious roll of honour, it is not far-fetched to think that one day, in a few years, we will find this boy from Bogota among the great climbers.

The Colombian from Massì Supermercati in Bergamo won the race with authority, taking advantage of the terrain that was congenial to him, a climb like Monte Magno which doesn’t allow you to breathe and in the final four kilometers presents gradients on average over 9% with walls firmly in double figure to overcome.

The news

But let’s get to the story of this one race born in 1985 by Tino Del Pietro and his friends Giuseppe Pedrotti, Silvano Borra and Luciano Manelli, the latter today the only one left to carry on «A race that is worth it».

Identical route compared to last year’s edition as well as the date of Republic Day. The meeting and departure took place at the Renault Manelli dealership in via Triumplina in the early afternoon with the transfer at controlled speed south of the city center and departure from viale Venezia in the direction of Gavardo where an 18 kilometer circuit began to be repeated four times before undertake the prohibitive climb to Monte Magno.

Right in the circuit drawn down between Soprazocco San Biagio, the Cavallino pass, Muscoline, Castrezzone, Calvagese, Prevalle and back to Gavardobegins the brawl with escape attempts. The couple formed by Elia Belluschi from Nuova Fagnano and Andrea Donà from Campana Imballaggi in Trentino gives it a try. Despite the courage of the two, the group gives no respite, but as soon as they recover, they set off again in search of glory in seven of which we note the regional champion D’Alessandro also from Nuova Fagnano and Andrea Godizzi from Biesse Carrera. But at the entrance to the Monte Magno slope, the group swoops like a hawk on the fugitives. Everything needs to be redone even if the ultimate judge in these cases is the climb.

The Giorgi team has the promising Giacomo Rosato as a card to play for whom he does a great job in the first part of the climb launching the captain towards success. But the standard bearer of the Orobic team, followed first by his son Santiago Basso (son of the two-time winner of the Giro d’Italia Ivan), then comes under the Colombian Martinez who engages Rosato in an exciting duel on the pedals until the Colombian he switches on the turbo and goes off to achieve a prestigious success that can open up a career for him. At least that’s what he himself hopes. Fourth place for Ivan Basso’s son Santiago while the first from Brescia is Filippo Inselvini of Capriolo Ostilio Mobili, twelfth.
