PERUGIA – Last week before the elections and Umbria7 publishes – in strict alphabetical order – the answers to the five questions posed to the five candidates for mayor of Perugia.
We asked the five aspirants at Palazzo dei Priori their position on some relevant issues: in favor or against the Perugia Hub and the BRT? What management for the relaunch of Monteluce and what idea for the debts of the mountain communities? And finally, should the Municipality of Perugia pay its share for the San Francesco airport or should the Region take care of it?
Below are the answers Davide Baioccomayoral candidate supported by the Forza Perugia and Alternativa Riformista Baiocco mayor-Italexit lists.
1The theme of the “nodino” of Perugia, the roads to be built to reach the acropolis, is fundamental for traffic in the next two decades.
to. Are you in favor and are you committed to seeking funding to complete the work as quickly as possible?
b. Are you against it and do you intend to start from scratch?
c. Do you have other ideas?
«We are in favor.
It is clear that the variant from Collestrada to Corciano can really make a difference, freeing traffic and improving the air we breathe. This project will not only reduce pollution but will make the daily life of all Umbrians healthier and more pleasant. I am committed to seeking funding given that for the moment, beyond the proclamations, not a single euro has been allocated.”
2.The Tram bus, Brt, is an idea for which the European left fought above all and brought to Perugia with the Pnrr. The work can only be stopped – at this point in the process – with possible penalties being paid.
to. Are you in favor of continuing?
b. Are you against the work and do you think it is useful to stop it even if you lose money?
c. You have other ideas
«We are against it.
The BRT project is expensive and limited to only one part of the city, therefore not fair. Furthermore, it might be better to stop rather than waste 110 million euros on a project that only serves a small portion of the city and which also removes two tracks from the station, compromising its future development.
Among other things, with a much lower investment we could think of a fleet of new latest generation electric buses.”
3. In Monteluce the Region found a 50 million hole and has worked in recent years to recover the area, through a national public company, which now however must be put in a position to become a strong point of the city again. We must decide to support the development of the area, not only with the Casa della Salute, whose construction has already started, but also by insisting on having other public bodies invest there.
to. Are you in favor of continuing with the relaunch lines already implemented?
b. Are you against the development of the area under the conditions now established?

«We are in favor of the relaunch of such an important area of the city but not only by bringing in public bodies but also families.
Furthermore, given its proximity to the University, the new Monteluce can also be home to a student residence.”
4.The mountain communities are one of the great buboes of Umbria’s regional budgets.
to. Are you of the opinion that only the Municipalities, which are included in the mountain community that cannot catch up with their accounts, should pay the debt through further taxation of their citizens?
b. Do you believe that the debt should be distributed pro rata for all the Municipalities of the Region?
c. You have other ideas
«We are in favor of the debt being divided among the municipalities of the indebted mountain community».
5.Airport. The Region has invested heavily in the relaunch of “San Francesco”, considering it an indispensable vector for the regional economy and tourism, but in particular for that of Perugia. Are you of the idea of contributing, as your position as members requires, to the development of the airport, once the current technical problems regarding the payment of the fee have been overcome? Or do you think it’s up to the Region to finance the airport?

«In favor of financing the airport. The airport is vital to tourism and the economy of the entire city. We also believe it is essential to evaluate a partnership with a private, financially solid and competent partner, which would give us the opportunity to obtain routes that connect us with international hubs”.
