The escape into Egypt told by the young artists of Torricelli-Ballardini

Ceramics, sand, flowers, but also CDs and even shoes: three third grade classes Torricelli-Ballardini artistic high school of Faenza, they staged the flight to Egypt carried out by the Holy Family two thousand years ago, in a revisitation that does not lose sight of current events. 48 works in ceramic which tell of the “ability to make team talent available, a gesture that goes beyond the artistic dimension alone” as underlined Massimo Isolamayor of Faenza during the inauguration of the exhibition at the church of Santa Maria dell’Angelo made available for several years by the diocesan museum as a contemporary art laboratory.

The teacher: “I saw the thrill of growing up”

“It is not the first time that this church hosts young people – he recalled Monsignor Mariano Faccani Pignatelli, director of the diocesan museum. This location in particular owes not only its foundation to Jesuits in the 17th century but was frequented in the following centuries by their students. Even today you can see the graffiti on the balustrade in front of the altar.” Between young today, however, there are those who have highlighted the past, some the present, some the aspects linked to imprisonment, some who have wanted to look beyond, focusing on freedom and peace. Despite the strong theme, the final result is very fresh. “There was excitement, chaos, fear, the thrill of growing up – he said Sonia Marchiani, high school teacher – I saw them questioning themselves, crying and laughing, reflecting, broadening their horizons”. This is the second project as the architect recalled Davide Rava who oversaw the project together with the students. “The boys investigated a dramatic episode remembering that even today many families are forced to flee. The horizon taken into consideration was very broad, also including the apocryphal gospels.” The boys followed the project in all its phases, also taking care of the setup and the graphic part. You only have time to visit the exhibition until June 6th, the end of the school year. Free entry, from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 15.00 to 19.00.
