Republic Day in Reggio Calabria, honors awarded

This morning, on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic, the flag-raising ceremony was held at the War Memorial, followed by the blessing and laying of the laurel wreath, and the reading of the message of the President of the Republic by part of prefect Clara Vaccaro. The following honors were then awarded: Davide Barbieri, Massimo Bovalino, Sabato Cennamo, Domenico Cicco, Paolo Critelli, Giuseppe Focà, Pasquale Gullì and Francesco Principato knights of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic; Angelo Aldarese, Salvatore D’Agostino and Giuseppe Gallo medals of honor for Italian citizens deported to Nazi concentration camps and labor camps in the Second World War.

At the end of the ceremony, the exhibition of some of the works on the theme of the Constitution created by children from schools of all levels in the province was inaugurated in the gallery of Palazzo San Giorgio, the seat of the Municipality. The Municipality and Metropolitan City also took part in the traditional ceremony.
And once again, therefore, the two organizations wanted to underline “the high civic value of an anniversary that recalls the community’s commitment to serving the country in the name of democracy, freedom and the Italian Constitution”. There is also a strong call for peace and unity between peoples at a time when the world is shaken by numerous conflicts.
