Last day of bittersweet opening, Friday, for the historic fruit and vegetable shop of Gabriele and Graziella Gambetti who closed the business after 71 years of service. Opened by their parents way back in 1953 in Via Provvidenza, the shop then moved (and expanded) to its current location in Piazza Buozzi, where for a long time it represented not only a point of sale of fresh products, but a meeting place and sharing for the community, a place to stop and have a chat and not just where to shop. The generational transition occurred in 1991 when Gabriele took over from his father, taken away by an illness. After a few years, her sister Graziella also arrived to carry on the business family tradition Bridge Gambits. A new professional path has opened up for Gabriele, while his sister Graziella will enjoy her well-deserved retirement after many years of work. However, Friday was a day tinged with sadness for the village. Many customers were moved by the news of the closing of the historic shop, and others wanted to show their gratitude to the Gambetti brothers by bringing a small present as a sign of gratitude. The volunteers of the town’s Pro Loco have also dedicated a video to the historic shop (visible on the association’s YouTube channel). «It’s very nice to know that we are appreciated and how customers have grown fond of us over the years», commented Graziella, behind the already half-empty shelves at the end of the day, the last one after 71 years. Yesterday it was Pontelagoscuro woke up a little “poorer”with a lowered shutter in place of a shop that wrote a chapter in the history of the hamlet.
