“Mobilization for Health: Let’s defend the Birth Center in the ‘Riuniti’ Hospital of Anzio and Nettuno!
The Lazio Region has announced the closure of the birth center at the Riuniti Hospital of Anzio and Nettuno, a decision that appears to be somewhat questionable and worrying for the health and well-being of the citizens of the area.
This choice, made as part of the 2024/2026 Health Plan, raises serious concerns regarding the quality and accessibility of health services for families in the region. Closing a service already authorized by the Ministry of Health, without clear justification or convincing technical support, puts the health and safety of pregnant women and newborns at risk.
Furthermore, the decision to close the birth center in favor of Velletri, where the department will be reopened again, raises strong concerns about the equitable distribution of healthcare resources in the region. It is essential that public health decisions are based on scientific data and the real needs of local communities, rather than on political or financial considerations.
In the next few days we will organize a mobilization to ask the Lazio Region to reconsider this decision and to commit to guaranteeing fair and safe access to maternity services for all women and families in the region. Citizens’ health cannot be sacrificed on the altar of hasty decisions or decisions not supported by adequate evaluation and public consultation.
