Long and touching speech by the mayor of Monza Paolo Pilotto on the occasion of the celebrations of June 2nd. “June 2nd is such an important holiday that “you don’t go to work” (even if
today is Sunday, and therefore we don’t notice it at all), people feel in
“free exit”, families and friends gather, someone takes care of his house,
someone rests, someone goes out, walks, travels- said the mayor of Monza -. But the beauty of the party is not only in the beautiful dress or in the rest or in the meeting. The beauty of the party also lies in sharing together why we celebrate, the meaning that motivates every party and this party too”.

Pilotto himself explained that “the celebration of June 2, the celebration of our Republic, is actually a sort of magnet, which by attraction calls to everyone’s attention another historical date, which gave the choice of the Republic and our national community the necessary foundations For
hold up over time. Approved and promulgated in December 1947, effective the 1st
January 1948, the Constitution of the Italian Republic became the legal beacon of
our people, and not only that, the fundamental law which enunciates the rights and duties
of each person, the prerogatives and commitments of each state organ, the balance
necessary within the legal system of the Republic, laid the foundations for
support the aspirations of individuals and of an entire people”.

Precisely for this reason the mayor argued that: “This is why there should be many of us here, and in every square of our 7904 Italian municipalities, to party! It is not just a matter of remembering a date, or two dates, but of celebrating what, despite the human imperfection of every day, has allowed and continues to allow our people to grow in freedom, in democracy, in mutual respect between citizens and in respect of other peoples. The journey is long, the challenges of complexity are many, the efforts and commitments are equally numerous. But the example of our mothers and fathers, who in the vote of that day, gave us a legacy of freedom and democracy, and the responsibility of each of us are the reason why even today, with trust and emotion, we celebrate together the Day of our Republic”.
