“In the end it’s the first zero that was supposed to arrive and the day was today: I’d rather it be on a day of bad sensations where I don’t feel well than a day that’s going well where nothing bothers you. It’s a difficult weekend, I don’t I’m completely satisfied with the front of the bike, let’s see if tomorrow we have to make a change. I think there is something big that we don’t know, that I don’t know, although I hope that we will improve for tomorrow because after two laps I noticed that the wheel was already super worn and it’s not normal to have these sensations. Let’s see if we can pick up the pace.”
Even the pole was a bit difficult…
“We always suffered, but I had a good reference with Pedro and Marc: he did a good lap, but then on the second attempt I already noticed that the problem was the front and not the pace. It had already happened to me yesterday afternoon after two laps I was suffering a lot with the front as if it were very worn, it’s very strange. There’s something we can’t find, let’s see what the other Ducatis have that manage to be so competitive to improve this problem.”
On today’s fall…
“I was getting very close and I knew the leader had gone out and I just maintained my position. I didn’t even want to defend myself, I knew Marc was faster and I wanted to stay with him to see if we could move forward. He had the podium quite level but these things happen and it’s not always nice to fight against him. I was driving slower and with less brakes and despite this I crashed, so in the end it’s very difficult to control, I didn’t do anything strange and it wasn’t the same. Jerez, for example. I simply braked less before and maybe I was the problem, but when things don’t work it’s very delicate and it’s very easy to fall like that.”
What happened with Enea Bastianini?
“I didn’t see it on TV but I experienced it: already at the end of the first lap he kept me out in a corner which is dangerous, I gave in and then he went wide in turn 1. I just held my line normal and I didn’t see him: I heard there had been contact, but I didn’t know he had fallen, I saw him on the big screens, then I’ll see what they have to tell me”
How do you see tomorrow’s race?
“I’m not in a position not to find something: in Montmeló I would have stayed seventh on Saturday if it hadn’t been for the crashes and on Sunday I saved the result with a second place, so let’s hope we can do that. Surely my team and Ducati will do a great work and we will find some solution to help me not wear out the front wheel so much”
At least you can console yourself with the 27 point lead in the championship…
