The Rocca Pia lit up in red, 1,200 people including athletes, technicians, family members, staff and volunteers from Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria and Sardinia.
So yesterday evening, Friday 31 May, the opening ceremony of the swimming and bowling “Play the Games” was held in Tivoli, the Interregional Games of “Special Olympics Italy” which will cross various Italian regions with a rich calendar of events (CLICK AND READ TIBURNO’S ARTICLE).
Seven cities, 23 days of competition and 14 Olympic disciplines, an unforgettable event dedicated to sport and social inclusion. Yesterday evening the Bleso Amphitheater in Tivoli was the setting for the lighting of the “Sacred Fire of Olympia” in the presence of the “special” athletes who today and tomorrow will compete in the disciplines of swimming, at the Municipal Swimming Pool of Tivoli, and bowling , at the “Maniampama” plant in Guidonia.
The ceremony, organized by the Special Olympics Italia Team Lazio and the ASD Liberi di Fare Sport Tivoli, was attended by the deputy mayor of Tivoli Laura Di Giuseppe, the Mayor of Guidonia Montecelio Mauro Lombardo, the Regional Director of “Special Olympics” Lazio Stefania Cardenia, the Major Simone Vastano, commander of the Guidonia Montecelio Group of the Guardia di Finanza, Major Francesco Ferrante, Commander of the Carabinieri Company of Tivoli, the Deputy Vice President of the Italian Bowling and Billiards Federation Cosimo Zecca, Francesco De Biasi, member of the Special Olympics board Marina Battista representative of the ANCI, Alessandro Palazzoni, deputy vice-president of Special Olympics Italy, and Alessandra Palazzotti, National Director of Special Olympics Italy.
Various associations contributed to the realization of the ceremony: the Tivoli Civil Protection Volunteers, Radio Aid Volunteers Association and GOS, the National Carabinieri Association, the Tivoli Marathon, the bikers of the MPM GENS Group and 8212 Family Riders, the Congeav association and the scout groups of Guidonia.
