The sense of pain and despair felt by yet another young victim who tragically lost his life in an accident at the crossroads in the Aranceto district of Catanzaro leads me to make a reflection that involves all the administrators, present and past, on the state of the road system of the our city. The sense of guilt that assails me, as a former administrator, is summed up in this worm that I have been unable to overcome since the other evening and that is that everything has been done to make such busy streets as Viale Magna Grecia, Viale Isonzo, Via Lucrezia della Valle, Viale Crotone just to mention arteries which in terms of number of accidents, and unfortunately many fatalities, if compared, far exceed those of the infamous Ionian state road 106.

Martina Guzzi, the young girl who flew into the sky on the evening of May 28th at that very dangerous intersection would certainly still be among us, living her dreams tragically interrupted at just 25 years old, if only a simple roundabout had been built to convey the intense traffic flows that intersect between Viale Magna Grecia with those of the Aranceto district and with the road network connecting with Giovino, which today represents an irreplaceable artery to avoid crossing Catanzaro Lido. But there’s more. This infamous crossroads will soon be made even more problematic due to the opening of the new road planned for access to the Corvo metro stop, the works of which are at an advanced stage of execution. So what should we wait for? May what happened with the Recovery Notice for the redevelopment of the urban suburbs be repeated, of which the past and current administration will sooner or later have to explain what happened to the funds allocated by the Government which, in addition to imposing social interventions , infrastructural and sporting, which would have changed the face of the neighbourhoods, involved the construction of three roundabouts, respectively, at the crossroads of the Le Fornaci Shopping Centre, at the entrance to the Corvo district and precisely at the Aranceto one. To these we must urgently add the one planned between the road network of Via dei Conti Falluc and Viale Lucrezia della Valle which causes kilometre-long queues due to the presence of a traffic light and the entry and exit from a shopping center just 50 meters away.

What should you expect? Yet another loan not to be followed up on? Yet another fatal accident that only leads to these reflections? With the opening of the road system on Viale Magna Grecia at the junction of the Corvo Metro stop, the conflict between the traffic flows in transit will be multiplied, therefore the need to carry out every work to secure the road system and also the crossing is urgently needed. pedestrian area of Viale Magna Grecia, today impossible.
