The 1st Edition of the Award named after the young journalist Marco Dongu who passed away in 2023 took place yesterday afternoon, Friday 31 May.

A huge participation, a sign of the immense affection that linked the city of Caserta to Marco. In fact, around 200 people were present and, despite the large capacity of the Diocesan Library which hosted the event, many people witnessed the whole thing from outside.

Also present were local institutions and authorities: the Hon. Gimmi Cangiano and Marco Cerreto, the Police Commissioner Andrea Grassi, the Commander of the Caserta Fire Brigade Paolo Massimi, the Councilor of Marcianise Lisa Froncillo and the Municipal Councilors Andrea Boggia and Giovanni Musto , respectively of the Municipalities of Piedimonte Matese and Villa Literno.

Among the audience also a representation of the Casertana FC club with President D’Agostino. After the greetings of the institutions and authorities present, the organizers spoke: Mattia Atzori, representative of Gioventù Casertana, Vincenzo Moretta, President of the Marcianise Forum, Lorenzo Zampella, President of the Villa Literno Forum, Giovanni Valente, President of the Piedimonte Matese Forum and Marco’s parents, Maria Grazia and Salvatore.

The event, moderated by the journalist and writer Nadia Verdile, was also broadcast live by the RadioCasertaTv broadcaster to allow those who, due to impediments, were unable to attend to view it.

Ten young people from the four municipalities involved were awarded and, each in their own sector of reference, distinguished themselves and were selected as deserving young people who bring prestige to their territory.

Marco Dongu Award

There was such clear emotion in the eyes of those, including institutions and the public, who took part but the event, as also underlined by the organisers, was above all an opportunity to ‘celebrate’ Marco, his goodness and his genuineness and the territory of Terra di Lavoro, once again, responded in a very large way towards him.

“With still so much emotion – so Mattia Atzori – I try to metabolize what happened yesterday. A huge participation, there were almost 200 of us, and this is a sign of how much Marco was able to sow in his short but intense life. I must sincerely thank those who attended, the authorities, Maria Grazia and Salvatore, the associations that sponsored the event, the broadcaster that broadcast everything live, the moderator and my colleagues from the various forums who immediately they supported me and supported me in this project. Yesterday’s event will be just a beacon for all the editions that will follow each year in memory of Marco, everyone’s friend”.
