No longer just by ship, but also by air. The air connection from the Marche region to Greece departs today at 2.10pm, from Ancona International Airport to Athens. The Hellenic capital will be reachable twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, thanks to Volotea, the low-cost airline for small and medium-sized European cities. A total of 13 thousand seats will be on sale, already available on the carrier’s website and in travel agencies. “Greece represents a market of great appeal from a tourist point of view and this connection not only allows you to reach the capital, but also the Greek islands thanks to the numerous connections available from Athens – explained Alexander D’Orsogna, CEO of the company of management of the Doric airport -. The increasingly close partnership between Volotea and Ancona International Airport has given excellent results in the last two years in which the Spanish carrier has added very famous international destinations to the historic national destinations, Catania, Palermo, Olbia and Cagliari. like Paris, Athens and from November Barcelona”. In support of this are the words of Valeria Rebasti, International market director of Volotea: “There are seven destinations available this year to four countries: Italy, France, Greece and, in autumn, also Spain”. First, however, a summer that promises to be particularly important for the Marche airport. On the other hand, the trend of the first months says a lot. “It was very positive – recognized yesterday the governor Francesco Acquaroli, on the sidelines of the visit to Ancona by the president of the Senate Ignazio La Russa –. In this 2024 we could even reach a record never recorded before. That of ten years ago stood at just over of 600 thousand passengers. If the trend were to continue like this, we could reach over 650 thousand passengers. Indeed, the presence of so many passengers means tourist, commercial and economic development also for the related industries and, above all, that the Marche region is more close to many destinations”. And then there is the question of continuity flights. Tomorrow SkyAlps will replace the Dash Q-400 with an ATR to guarantee better “sustainability” of the connections to Rome, Milan and Naples, guaranteed – still without official communications – also in the coming weeks: “Today those flights are a certainty. They have Swiss punctuality and they represent a strategic opportunity. They are important phases in view of the new tender – explains Acquaroli –. But we reiterate that those flights strengthen the direction we wanted, which Europe has recognized and which the Government supports together with us”.
