Catania: the flea market in via San Giuseppe La Rena doubles illegally, the police arrives and many flee

The flea market in the Via San Giuseppe La Rena district doubles in size, but does so illegally. In addition to Sunday, in fact, many sellers were present yesterday too, but on Saturdays the market does not have authorisations. Thus agents of the State Police, the Local Police and the veterinary ASP carried out specific checks by order of the Catania Police Commissioner.

During the control operations of the street vendors, concerning both the criminal and administrative fields, particular attention was paid to verifying the ownership of the required authorizations, as well as the origin of the goods displayed for sale.

During the course of the service, administrative sanctions were imposed and the relevant seizure reports were compiled, given that some of the retailers subjected to the inspection were found not to have the required municipal license. Goods were also found abandoned by street vendors who, upon seeing the police, left them on the ground to flee before the inspection.

In total, eighteen people were checked, despite the adverse weather conditions, and five people were fined and the administrative sanction of illegal commercial activity was contested.

The goods, subjected to administrative seizure, were collected and transported by the Local Police for safekeeping and subsequent checks.
