Sante Begali Fair Play Award to Montipò before Verona-Inter

This evening at the Bentegodi, before the match between Verona and Inter, the yellow-blue goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò and the former striker Emil Hallfredsson they will receive the plaque of the 15th Edition respectively of the award “FAIR PLAY SANTE BEGALI 2023/2024” And “THE UNFORGETTABLE GIALLOBLÙ “SANTE BEGALI” 2023/2024”. It will be delivered by Pier Giorgio Begali, son of Sante, who played 12 seasons in Hellas Verona from 1949 to 1962 and was the captain of the first historic promotion to Serie A in 1957. He played 220 matches (apart from a small parenthesis in A with Genoa) in the yellow-blue team without ever having been disqualified. After hanging up his boots, he remained very attached to the team and the club over time, becoming a true symbol of it.

The Sante Begali Fair Play Award it was established by his son Pier Giorgio in 2009 in collaboration with the Arena di Verona and the Hellas Verona club, after the death of his father Sante in 2008. Every year the award is won by the player who: received fewer warnings than minutes played; did not win in previous seasons; played at least half of the matches; has never been expelled (direct expulsion); however, those who have been expelled following warnings are competing; received the most votes in the poll, specifically organized by L’Arena and Hellas, in which fans could choose their favorite player from the top 5 in the final ranking. In 2023 the recognition went to defender Doig, now at Sassuolo.

The “The Unforgettable Gialloblù “Sante Begali” Award, established in 2011 by Pier Giorgio Begali, in collaboration with the Arena di Verona and Hellas Verona, it aims to remember and give credit to the players who played in the yellow-blue team and who contributed to making history. In 2023 the Award went to the Argentine Juanito Gomez.
