Eating healthy with the Mediterranean diet: discover the Campagna Amica events in Lombardy

The farmers’ markets of Campagna Amica celebrate the Mediterranean diet with events in various locations in Lombardy, offering information brochures, educational workshops and displays of typical products. Coldiretti highlights the worldwide recognition of the diet thanks to Ancel Keys’ studies

VARESE – The farmers’ markets of Friendly Campaign are preparing to celebrate the Mediterranean diet with a series of events distributed throughout Lombardy. Yesterday, Saturday 25 May, the initiative stopped in Induno Olona, as announced by the provincial Coldiretti. This event is part of a larger celebration that recognizes the Mediterranean diet as the winner of the 2024 World Diet Challenge.

INDUNO OLONA

The market of Induno Olona, located in the San Cassiano district, was the hub of yesterday’s activities. Visitors had the opportunity to receive a brochure full of agricultural advice for a healthy lifestyle.

MILAN

In addition to Induno Olona, too Milan will participate with a significant event at the market Roman Gate. Here, an exhibition of typical agri-food products of the Mediterranean diet will be set up and participants will be able to take part in the “Organic by nature” workshop. Additionally, the farmers’ market courtyard will host artisans and hobbyists who will display their handmade products.

The celebrations don’t stop there. The covered market of Campagna Amica di Sondrio, in Piazzale Bertacchi, will offer further initiatives dedicated to the promotion of the Mediterranean diet.

LECCO

The party continues today, Sunday 26 May Lecco, where thematic exhibitions will be set up and information brochures will be distributed. In San Giorgio Bigarello, in the province of Mantua, the Campagna Amica market, organized from 10am to 7pm in conjunction with the “Carriages and Horses” event at the Carpaneta Forest, will offer educational workshops for children. These workshops, run by the Corte le Faraone educational farm, will focus on food education and the importance of adopting the Mediterranean diet from an early age.

CREAM

Cream, in the province of Cremona, will be another important stage of the celebrations. Here, the producers of the Campagna Amica market will involve children in workshops dedicated to the Mediterranean diet. The initiatives in Cremona will also continue on Tuesday 28 May, with the Campagna Amica farmers’ market under the porticoes of the agricultural consortium. On this occasion, a guided tour will be organized for primary school children, accompanied by educational workshops.

The provincial Coldiretti underlines how the global success of the Mediterranean diet is largely due to the studies of American scientist Ancel Keys. Keys, who lived for over 40 years in Acciaroli, in the province of Salerno, was the first to highlight the beneficial effects of this diet. The Mediterranean diet, based mainly on bread, pasta, fruit, vegetables, meat, extra virgin olive oil and a traditional glass of wine, consumed in regular meals, is today recognized and appreciated worldwide.

The event in Induno Olona and the other initiatives planned in the Campagna Amica markets represent a unique opportunity to rediscover the flavors and benefits of the Mediterranean diet, celebrating together a cultural and gastronomic heritage that continues to gain consensus throughout the world.
