PALATE. Last Wednesday, May 22nd, in the municipality of Palata, the celebration of the World Biodiversity Day took place, promoted by the cultural association “Casteller is there”.
Established in 2000 by the United Nations General Assembly to commemorate the adoption of the text of Convention on Biological Diversity-CBDwhich took place on 22 May 1992 in Nairobi, this celebration aims to inform citizens about the value and importance of biodiversity for the life of all species.
After the greetings of the President of the Association, Luigia Scarlato, of Marshal Zotti, belonging to the Carabinieri Forestali Group of Petacciato, the Carabinieri of Biodiversity of Isernia donated to the association the Falcone Tree, fulcrum of the National Project “A tree for the future”promoted by the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
Following, the speech of the Director of the Diocesan Historical Archive of Termoli Larino, Giuseppe Mammarella who underlined the belonging of the area from here to the ancient Diocese of Guardialfiera.
At around 10.30 the nature walk began: the students of the “A. Ricciardi” of Palata, led by Dr. Dario Ciaramella, botanical researcher at Unimol, by Dr. Federica Compagnone, PhD student at Unimol, by the mineralogy expert Nicola Petrella, by Dr. Nicola Norante, ornithologist, visited the area located to the Contrada Castellerce, falling within the Site of Community Interest “Calanchi Pisciarello – Macchia Manes” and in the Special Protection Area “Lago di Guardialfiera-Foce del Biferno”, passing from the Mediterranean scrub of the hill of the same name to the gullies.
Followed by field food curated by Molise companies.
Five minutes of unexpected heavy rain did not stop the continuation of the event in the afternoon.
The speeches by Stefano Ferro, sales manager of the BioEsperia Srl company, on sustainable agriculture were very interesting; of Dr. Michele Tanno, a highly esteemed agronomist, whose painstaking research work has led to the recovery of at least sixty varieties of native apples from Molise; by Simone Gentile, manager of the organic apple orchard of the “Melise” company in Castel del Giudice; by Prof. Paola Di Giannantonio, who underlined the importance of cereals among the Samnites who dedicated altars to them inside the hurz, the sacred enclosure; by Dionisio Cofelice, proud miller of Matrice, who enchanted those present with the art of stone grinding.
Pino Aprile, journalist and writer, author of the best seller “Terroni”pulled the strings with the usual emphasis: the best forces must necessarily unite to safeguard and enhance the resources of this wonderful land.
