Eating disorders: advanced training in Sassari

Sassari, 26 May 2024 – In Sassari the best specialists for the treatment of eating disorders met to illustrate an innovative treatment model: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT-E. The Sassari Local Health Authority has organized a three-day advanced training course in the city on the topic of eating disorders aimed at operators of the Mental Health Department of the Local Health Authority n. 1 and open to all operators in the network of regional services dedicated to the treatment of complex pathologies such as eating disorders.

“Introduction to CBT-E focused on eating disorders”, is the theme of the three days held in recent days in the conference room of the Rizzeddu health facility which was part of the Regional plan “Organisation and implementation of the network of services in the Sardinia region dedicated to eating and nutrition disorders”.

CBT-E is the recommended treatment for all eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder and other eating disorders, both for adults and adolescents. The advanced training course included practical exercises to promote understanding of the methodology, as well as the analysis of the theory and the main procedures and strategies of CBT-E, which flexibly uses therapeutic strategies and procedures in sequence to address the individual psychopathology of the patient , in a team activity aimed at overcoming the eating disorder, where the patient finds himself an active participant in the treatment process.

The three-day training organized by the Sassari Local Health Authority saw the participation of Riccardo dalle Grave, doctor and psychotherapist, specialist in endocrinology and food science, specialized in the field of extreme food-related disorders, and who has been directing for thirty years the nutritional rehabilitation unit of the Villa Garda nursing home. Also with him is Simona Calugi, who is responsible for clinical research at the Villa Garda nursing home.

“CBT-E conceived by Dr. Dalle Grave and Dr. Calugi is the treatment considered the most effective for all eating disorders, this is observed in the numerous studies on the outcomes published in the literature, so much so that it was included in the Nice 2017 guidelines,” he explains the scientific director of the course, Dr. Antonella Amadori of the simple departmental structure of Eating Disorders of the ASL of Sassari.
