In countryside of the municipality of Cirigliano (Matera)occurred a fire that affected an area of private property with an extension of approximately one hectare of woodland vegetation and some olive trees.
THE soldiers of the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Accettura (Matera)during the patrol of the territory they noticed that the wooded area had been covered by flames in the previous days.
From the investigations carried out on the sites and with the necessary checks and findings (MEF – physical evidence method), the Forestry Carabinieri identified the point of origin of the firederived from the combustion of plant residues and pruning of olive trees.
The evident traces on the placesmade it possible to reconstruct the events that occurred, tracing the alleged perpetrator of the crime, the material executor of the pruning and burning work, a usual practice following common agronomic work.
Probably, due to the aforementioned negligent behavior, together with the climatic factors, the orography of the area with particular slope, and the dry vegetation, the flames quickly spread out of control, thus affecting the wooded area overlooking the olive grove.
The alleged author, once identified he was referred to the Judicial Authority for the crime of negligent forest fire.
Forest fires are frequently caused by negligence the result of negligent behavior caused by human action, together with climatic conditions, which increase the potential spread of flames in urban-forest interface areas with consequent danger to public safety and loss of forest heritage and biodiversity.
It is represented that the criminal case is in the preliminary investigation phasefor which the principle of presumption of innocence of the suspect applies until definitive conviction.
