The Risk Monitoring Functional Center of the Lombardy region issued today, May 23, 2024a new yellow code weather alert for thunderstorms and hydrogeological risk. “The transit over the Alpine arc of a more unstable impulse, associated with the depression that persists over Western Europe, will lead over the course of the today 23/05 Scattered precipitation with a predominantly downpour and thunderstorm character,” we read in the bulletin. “The phenomena will be progressively moving in the next few hours and will involve the plain and the eastern sectors, with areal accumulations between 15 and 30 mm/12h on the first reliefs and the plain and possible isolated peaks between 30 and 50 mm/12h in the areas affected by the nuclei thunderstorms. Expect general attenuation in the evening. Predicted intensification of the wind from the South-Western quadrants on the border ridges“.
The weather alert for Lombardy also reports that “it will also persist throughout the day tomorrow 24/05 the south-western humid flow which will determine a marked accentuation of the diurnal cycle convection. From mid-morning, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible, initially more widespread in the foothills and locally more intense in the late afternoon on the plains. Ventilation expected from the South-West to moderate in the Apennine sectors in the central hours of the day, elsewhere generally weak but with temporary reinforcements coinciding with convective passages“.
