non-self-sufficient residents on a trip to Venice

“VI would like to go and drink coffee at Caffè Florian, in Piazza San Marco!” Thus began, almost as a joke, the adventure of some residents of the “Piovesan” nucleus, a nucleus for non-self-sufficient people of the Salce hotel house, Israa residence.

On Tuesday 14 May, seven residents, part of the team and some volunteers, landed in Piazza San Marco in Venice for the first time.

An outing organized down to the smallest detail, with a little fear, but a lot of courage, to realize the desire of the residents involved to be able to see, after so many years, the most beautiful city in the world.

Departure from the hotel in Porta San Tomaso with two minibuses, arrival at Tronchetto and boarding the vaporetto to cross the lagoon to the desired destination: here is the bell tower of San Marco on the horizon!

After disembarking, a snack and then ready for the first souvenir photos to send immediately to the family, a tour of the square to admire the Ducal Palace, the facade of the Basilica and why not, even the shop windows.

Finally the desire that guided this adventure comes true: a good coffee drunk all together in the renowned Caffè Florian. For lunch, the indispensable Venetian sandwiches, another souvenir photo with a kind gondolier and, then, back up and down the bridges towards the vaporetto, to take the road back.

A day full of smiles, satisfaction and a lot of courage, demonstrating that, sometimes, wanting is really possible and that it is possible to make wishes come true even if they seem like utopias thanks to the help of the entire team of Israa staff, who work at the service of the elderly people.
