Strengthening air connections between Sicily and Belgium: assignment to Giuseppe Arnone

Giuseppe Arnone, honorary president of the Italians in Europe Foundation, was given the task by the passenger traffic development manager, Leo Lugovic, of the Liège airport (Belgium) to start talking with the Sac of Catania in order to unite Sicily to Belgium with Comiso.

“The need – explains Arnone – arises from the need to serve a very important catchment area in a European area intensely inhabited by our compatriots. In fact, in that part of Europe, the presence of thousands of Italians of Sicilian origin is historically recorded. The city of Liège is close to Saarbrucken, a region of Germany, the epicenter of the presence of historical emigration and Luxembourg. The exploratory mandate lasts six months, I will immediately take action with the airport and political institutions”.

According to Giuseppe Arnone “the new airline can strengthen those that already exist, creating extraordinary mobility, which would develop a cultural and economic interconnection, strengthening tourist flows, reactivating the villages of the cities of origin; the presence of thousands of people could relaunch the economy, not only tourism, but encourage the return to their native places, relaunching the popular tradition, also in view of the great opportunity of Agrigento being the Italian capital of culture.
