Siligardi and Valentini ready to stay another year

In addition to Mirco Antenucci, last summer Spal had placed a strong bet on two other highly experienced players considered ideal for adding quality and personality to a group made up largely of young people. We are talking about Nahuel Valentini and Luca Siligardi, both born in 1988 and with many Serie A and B championships behind them. Mister Di Carlo considered them central to his technical project, and apparently he hasn’t changed his mind. That’s right, because both the defender and the winger have an excellent chance of renewing their respective contracts expiring on June 30th and wearing the blue and white shirt again next season. It must be said that (barring twists and turns) no operation will be officially concluded before the appointment of the new director of the technical area, but the club from via Copparo – in agreement with the Ciociaro coach, who in all likelihood will sit on the Spal bench also in the next championship – he started negotiations with Valentini and Siligardi to keep them in Ferrara. If numerous signs had already arrived for the Argentine defender that led one to think that he would remain in the blue and white, for the winger who grew up in Inter’s youth team in the first weeks after the end of the championship, the consensual separation was almost taken for granted.

After all, Valentini had started the season like this and then became a cornerstone of Di Carlo’s rearguard, who hasn’t spared him even a minute since his return to Spal. Siligardi, on the other hand, was fresh from a promotion as a protagonist with the Feralpi Salò shirt and it was expected that he would be able to drag the blue and whites to the top of the table. Instead, after a promising start and a physiological decline, he was forced to raise the white flag following a very serious injury – a fractured fibula – which effectively prevented him from playing for four and a half months. Depriving Spal of a player with superior quality for most of the season. An injury like this requires a certain amount of caution even during the return phase, so Di Carlo made use of it by waiting until the last day to start using it from the first minute. And Siligardi responded presently, putting his signature on the victory in Olbia with a goal – the first in blue and white – and a stunning assist.

And now? Siligardi reflected on his future, communicating to the Via Copparo club his willingness to stay another year. To finally demonstrate his value in a place that has never seen him at full capacity and redeem a season that was too bad to be true for a thousand reasons. Naturally we will have to think about how to use Valentini and Siligardi who at 36 years of age certainly cannot play all the matches from the first to the last minute. Especially Siligardi, in a role as important as it is expensive. But Spal has received with satisfaction the willingness of the two players to continue their journey in the blue and white, and if there are no hitches their contract renewals could be the first operations formalized by the new sporting director.
