Porto Rotondo invaded by waste: the consortium members protest

Olbia. The waste situation in Porto Rotondo is reportedly becoming increasingly critical, with the village now chronically submerged waste due to insufficient collection service. This is what a group of consortium members reports, who have been reporting the problem for some time. But, as told to the editorial staff of Olbia.it, despite numerous PECs and requests addressed to both the Municipality of Olbia and the Consortium, to date nothing has been resolved.

A consortium member reported one of several testimonials of inconvenience: “I was informed in writing by the Consortium that De Vizia, on the basis of the new procurement contract presumably concluded with the Municipality, will carry out the collection of each type of waste only twice a week and that the Consortium will not provide supplementary collection. I consider it inconceivable that the service waste collection is provided only a few months a year and, even in those few months, without taking into account the tourist vocation of Porto Rotondo. The Municipality now considers us only an urban fraction of Olbia.”

The situation, say the consortium members, has become unsustainable, especially considering the importance of Porto Rotondo as destination tourist of international importance. During the summer months, the village fills with visitors, and waste management becomes a crucial aspect of keeping the area clean and welcoming.

The consortium members underline that the collection service should be adapted to the specific needs of the area, with greater frequency and particular attention during the high tourist season. The lack of an adequate service would not only damage the image of Porto Rotondo, but would also create hygienic and environmental problems: “we also want to underline the fact that plastic waste – and not only – ends up in the sea with the wind, creating a harm environmental evident” say the consortium members.

“The issue no longer concerns only public decorum, which also has its relevance, but public hygiene; Porto Rotondo is filling up mice, attracted by the large quantity of waste – especially organic waste – and one can easily imagine how much this represents a problem for those who are residents or owners of second homes. Here we regularly pay both the waste tax and the Consortium fee, in addition to the Tari on the berths of the Porto Rotondo Marina we are entitled to receive services, but no one seems to be interested. We have sent several communications both to the Municipality of Olbia and to the Consortium, we have filed a complaint with the Local Health Authority and the public hygiene office” explain the consortium members, who join the “Porto Rotondo tomorrow” association in the protest.

Despite repeated reports and requests for intervention, the situation appears to be at a standstill. Consortium members report feeling abandoned and neglected, with a waste collection service that does not meet the needs of the community and tourists.

“Last year we also encountered a similar problem, which was then partially resolved at the last minute. But here is the situation getting worse day by day, we are exhausted and completely invaded by rubbish. We need solutions” conclude the consortium members.
