Cultivating divergent thinking in the era of artificial intelligence: conference in Lecce

In 1950 the American psychologist Joy Paul Guilfordin distinguishing divergent from convergent thinking, criticized the psychometric approach of the time to the study of human intelligence.

Technological development has brought the increasingly massive presence of artificial intelligence into our lives, more or less consciously, and has now reached a turning point. From the first phase which saw algorithms capable of simplifying complex processes by finding solutions in a smaller amount of time, the current configurations, through the combination of thousands of data (big data), are proposed as a tool capable of finding answers that take into account the most information on a given phenomenon, favoring quantity over quality. The possibility of using this technology, now within everyone’s reach (ChatGPT), in different fields, work, social and political, opens up scenarios that are not easily predictable, but which already today have an important impact on the evolution of our society.

These are the themes at the center of the event “Divergent thinking in the era of AI: creativity, evolution and inclusion”, organized by Luminescence Apswhich will be held on Saturday 25 May at 10am Lecce at the former Olivetan Monastery, moderated by Luigi Carlucci, treasurer of the association. Institutional greetings are entrusted to the president of the Province, Stefano Minerva and the president of the association Luminescence, Antonio Del Prete. Speakers will be Alessandro Delli Noci, regional councilor for economic development, digital, energy, innovation and youth policies of the Puglia Region, who will present the Region’s programs on emerging professionalism in the field of artificial intelligence; Lucrezia Cavallo, director of psychology at the Center for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychotherapy Dsm ASL Leccewhich will propose a reading on the psychological and relational impact of new technologies; Antonino Salsoneexpert in commercial and corporate law, who will talk about divergent thinking in the development of modern society; Fabrizio Welcomepresident Iamcp Italywhich will illustrate the evolution of AI through big data and augmented reality, and Daniele Manniteacher at the “Galilei-Costa-Scarambone” Institute in Lecce, who will propose the vision of the student-centric school that makes use of the contribution of new technologies for individual development.
