The Municipal Council today approved the Municipality’s candidacy for the Puglia Region tender for the selection of project proposals aimed at strengthening and qualifying the tourist info-points belonging to the regional network, financed with resources from the Poc Puglia FESR-FSE 2014/2020.

‘Bari to Discover’ is the title of the candidate project, developed in collaboration with the manager of the municipal tourist infopoint (ATI Ecotour SRL – Developing.it SRL), which involves both the strengthening of opening hours and the activation of specific local entertainment services to be offered free of charge to tourists and residents.

In order to allow the candidacy for the regional public notice, the Council provision simultaneously defined an allocation from the municipal budget of 5 thousand euros to cover the additional resources that contribute to achieving the overall cost of the operation, equal to 25 thousand euros.

There are two tourist itineraries planned by the project, with free participation, which will take place at intervals during every weekend, on Sunday mornings from 10 to 12 and on Sunday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., starting from next June 15th.

‘Non-tourist Bari’ is a bicycle itinerary designed to raise awareness of the Madonnella, Libertà and San Cataldo districts, enhancing their historical, architectural and cultural elements, contemporary history and the innovative urban activities and realities present.

The tour begins by pedaling along the monumental seafront to reach the Madonella district among institutional buildings, elegant stately homes and historic buildings, to continue in the Libertà district among the historic commercial activities, the colorful local market, the new urban spaces dedicated to art , culture and the monumental cemetery. The tour ends in the Marconi district, located between the two main blades of the city until reaching the San Cataldo lighthouse and the imposing building of the Fiera del Levante. Along the route there will be a stop to taste typical Apulian products.

‘St. Nicholas and craftsmanship in Bari’ offers a compelling experience that follows in the footsteps of the venerated Patron Saint of Bari among the artisan workshops of the historic center. Participants will have the opportunity to admire up close the skill and passion of local artisans, custodians of ancient traditions handed down over time. The tour begins with a visit to the Basilica of San Nicola, where visitors will be able to immerse themselves in the history of the saint through his iconography and his artistic representations. The route continues in the suggestive Alberolungo courtyard, in the heart of Bari Vecchia, where the Nikolaus association is based. Here, master painters, medieval craftsmen, set designers and restorers give life to unique works, using even the simplest tools. Each guest will receive a small Saint Nicholas themed artefact for free, as a tangible reminder of this special experience.

The tour ends at the SpaccaBari workshop, founded twenty years ago by a group of artisans with the aim of preserving and promoting the ancient artisan traditions of the city. Each participant will have the opportunity to put their skills into practice, shaping a tangible symbol of the cultural and traditional richness of Bari with a unique artefact, in memory of an experience in the beating heart of the old city.
