Great satisfaction for the 31-year-old Tommaso Poletti from La Spezia, recently admitted to the training master for National Alpine skiing instructors. He grew up until the age of 16 in the Sci Club 21, a historic ski club founded in La Spezia, and then moved to Trentino until the age of twenty-one to continue his activity as a competitor. The selection for admission to the master’s course took place in Livigno from 21 to 25 April, with the first barrier of a giant time trial which already excluded half of the approximately 110 candidates. The following days continued on the track under the supervision of the technical commission made up of six technicians selected by the Italian Federation, while the final day included as the last technical step the performance of the three arcs of curve, short radius, serpentine and parallel which represent the maximum expression of Italian skiing. This phase, too, took place under the supervision of the commission designated for evaluations.
Of the 56 present at this stage, only 12 candidates were found suitable, including Poletti, who by passing the test had access to the fourth and final stage of the selection where the candidates had to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge through a written and oral test covering everything the official technical text of Italian skiing. A great satisfaction for the young Tommaso who, after years spent conquering the dream of becoming a professional skier, which then faded, still managed to be part of the category of national instructors who number just over 200 compared to the 16,000 thousand ski instructors. Professionals responsible for training and updating Italian alpine ski instructors, the national instructors are all former athletes with an important competitive history, or at least of a good level. Among them there are important names such as Daniela Ceccarelli, Giorgio Rocca, Denise Karbon and many others known for their sporting exploits. Poletti, after abandoning the world of racing and becoming a ski instructor in 2015, today also works as a coach for the Sci Club 21. The course which will begin in early July in Milan at CONI will last one year, after which there will be final exam that will make the profession official.
