Lombardy: 29 May Rosa Camuna awards ceremony

Milan, 22 May. The awards for the Rosa Camuna and the 2024 special mentions, established unanimously by the Lombardy Regional Council, will be delivered on Wednesday 29 May at 5pm at Palazzo Lombardia: in addition to these are the ‘special prizes’ of the President of the Council regional. The awards ceremony will be held on the occasion of the Lombardy Festival, established to celebrate the Battle of Legnano fought on 29 May 1176 against Barbarossa’s imperial troops.

“In the symbol of the Camunian Rose – underlines the president of the Regional Council, Federico Romani – we find the truest and deepest roots of the Lombard community, which identifies itself around the values ​​of know-how, concrete action and solidarity: these have always been the distinctive characteristics of the Lombards. Lombardy can and must continue to look to the future with confidence and optimism, aware that our social fabric is healthy and vital, as this year’s winners also testify. The true strength of Lombardy is its citizens, they deserve the applause and thanks of our institution for what they do every day”.

Overall, the Regional Council awarded 5 Rosa Camuna prizes and some special mentions out of 170 nominations received: the provinces with the highest number of nominations were Milan (74 candidates), Brescia (27 candidates), Varese (14 candidates) and Bergamo (12 candidates), Lodi bringing up the rear with only 2 nominations. Five prizes went to Milan and its province (1 Rosa Camuna and 5 special mentions), three prizes to the area of ​​Brescia (2 Rosa Camuna and 1 special mention), two prizes to Varese (1 Rosa Camuna and 1 special mention), two prizes in Monza and Brianza (1 Rosa Camuna and 1 special mention) and two awards in Bergamo (two special mentions). Personalities, associations and entities involved in the social, health, cultural, sporting and economic fields were awarded.

The Jury commission, chaired by the president of the regional council and composed of the other members of the bureau and the council group leaders, agreed to award the Rosa Camuna Award to Giuseppe Marotta, sports manager, born in Varese, CEO of Inter and Councilor of the National Professional League of Serie A, in the Italian football Hall of Fame for ten years; to Giuseppe Romele, paralympic athlete from Pisogne (BS) and world champion in Nordic skiing, first place in the 2023 world championships in Ostersund in Sweden in the sitting specialty in both the medium and long distance competitions and to Omar Pedrini, singer-songwriter and guitarist from Brescia, former leader of the Timoria.

Also awarded were Admo – Bone Marrow Donors Association of Milan, which today boasts over 400 thousand potential donors and has been able to offer hope and the possibility of recovery to over 4 thousand sufferers of leukemia, myelodysplasia and thalassemia over the last 20 years, and the Lions Guide Dogs service, created in 1959 to train and deliver guide dogs free of charge to blind people throughout Italy and whose training center in Limbiate (Mb) is a model and point of reference internationally.

Some special mentions were therefore proposed and attributed to Giovanni Para, president of the ‘Cortili solidali’ tenants committee of the public housing in via Palmanova, established in 2012 to provide assistance to lonely elderly people, disabled people and fragile people; ‘Locanda alla mano’ in Milan founded in 2013 in the heart of Sempione Park to promote training opportunities aimed at young people with Down syndrome; Martinengo social cooperative which has been operating in the Corvetto district of Milan since 1985 to support families, elderly people, minors and people with disabilities; Salvatore Lentini, head teacher from Bergamo born in Lovere and promoter of new inclusive models of teaching and learning, awarded at the Campidoglio and promoter of various international educational projects; Filosofi Foundation ‘Lungo l’Oglio’ directed by Francesca Nodari based in Villachiara (Bs), promoter and ambassador of local culture; Camillo de Milato, retired army general resident in Bagnatica (BG), founder of the Mariuccia nursery school and known for his cultural and social commitment; Gabriella Scaduto, Milanese psychologist and psychotherapist, president of the ReDiPsi Association for human rights; Claudio Fociani, master restorer from Briosco (Mb), responsible for the restoration of Vinci’s Last Supper, but who also worked on the restorations of the Certosa di Pavia, the Cathedral of Monza, the Milanese Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio and the Pinacoteca di Brera and ‘The world of Leo’, a cross-media Varese project promoted by Emanuela Cavazzini and Eleonora Vittoni in collaboration with Professor Paolo Moderato to facilitate learning in autistic children.
