The project “The time of kindness” is approaching its last appointment series of meetings promoted, with great success and public participation, by Historic Workers’ Society of Pordenone thanks to edited by Silvana Vassilli and realized with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Municipality of Pordenone and ITAS Assicurazioni, in collaboration with AIAB – Italian Association of Organic Agriculture FVG.

Wednesday 22 May at 6.00 pm at Palazzo Montereale Mantica in Pordenone, in collaboration with the Pordenone-Udine Chamber of Commerce, the theme “Kindness in economics” will be explored in depth by the last prestigious guest of the event, the professor Dipak Raj Pant, anthropologist and economist, freelance lecturer in various international universities, which will expose the importance of the “gentle” economy, or the truly “sustainable” economy, for our economic and social system.

The professor’s analysis starts from the observation that the conventional economy based on infinite growth is no longer sustainable. Expectations of continuous growth and an unconditional trust in technical progress have had environmental, social and economic efficiency costs.

To promote the economic development of a society, the economy must therefore be redesigned and reinvigorated in a qualitative, minimalist, circular, localist and biotic keyif we want to safeguard the integrity of the ecosystem, economic efficiency and social equity.

Dipak Raj Pant was the founder of the Interdisciplinary Studies Unit for Sustainable Economy (Interdisciplinary Unit for Sustainable Economy) at the LIUC university of Castellanza (Varese), the very first study center on sustainable economics in Italy (when “sustainability” was not yet fashionable) and was the coordinator of the center from 2000 until 2017. He has long experience as a sustainability strategy consultant and as a trainer of entrepreneurs and managers of non-governmental, business and charitable organizations (NGO).

Senior fellow of “Society for Applied Anthropology” (USA), is he has been a visiting professor at various universities in Brazil, China, Germany, Great Britain, India, Peru, Russia, Spain, the United States of America, Sweden and Taiwan. He has conducted field research in the most remote and marginal areas of the planet (Andes, Caucasus, Himalayas, taiga and steppes of Mongolia, tropical savannah and Kalahari desert in Africa) and has coordinated various sustainable development projects in Italy and abroad.

He has published articles and books on sustainability. Also available in Italian is the essay “Anthropology and Strategy: Essay on the human being and the sustainable economy” (ed. Guerini Scientifica, Milan 2004).

Native of Nepal and naturalized Italian citizen since 1994, he had his first training as a cadet officer of the Indian Air Force; later, he completed university studies in India and Europe. Today he lives for most of the year in Val Sesia, Piedmont.

The meeting is free to enter.
