With the motto “F(e)roc3 pe’ davero”, from 29 May to 1 June a series of events are ready to resonate in the historic center of the city

VITERBO – Pride returns to Viterbo on 1 June 2024, an event sponsored by various municipalities in Tuscia, primarily that of the capital, with four days of events that will take place starting from 29 May.

The event, presented with a press conference in the council room of Palazzo dei Priori, will be organized for the first time independently by the territory, directly by its inhabitants. A particular reason for pride, as highlighted by the president of the TusciaPride association Gian Carlo Mazza and his deputy Mirko Giuggiolini.

“To date – Giuggiolini was keen to declare – our reality is not truly inclusive and open. Even today, parents can be disappointed when their children come out. The discriminatory phenomenon is still present. Pride is therefore essential to create a permanent presence in the area. A defense against all forms of hatred and discrimination and which can build political work that continues outside of the party itself.”

This was echoed by the Councilor for Culture and Deputy Mayor Alfonzo Antoniozzi, who also remembered how “When I was young, the situation was really much more complex and sad than it is today. The road to finally being free to be ourselves, however, is still very long.”

The procession will start at 3.30pm from Via delle Fortezze and then enter Porta Romana up to Piazza del Plebiscito, then continue along Corso Italia up to Piazza Verdi. From there it will travel along Via Marconi up to the Shrine, and then reach the San Faustino neighborhood from Via San Giovanni Decollato, stopping in Piazza Sallupara.

“A significant route because it enters the medieval historic center for the first time, crossing the places of power but also those with more degradation such as San Faustino”, declared Mirko Giuggiolini again.

A concert will then take place in Piazza Sallupara and subsequently a DJ set until 2 am. A “Queer night”, as it was defined by the organizers, open to anyone, like the entire event.

In the previous three days, however, two “Rainbow streets” will be held in via Saffi and in the San Pellegrino district, which will be “festivally decorated” for the occasion with the colors of the LGTBQ+ community and where various shops and restaurant businesses will present discounts and “themed” products for the occasion.

“Pride is both an instrument of struggle and a moment of joy and fun dedicated to the manifestation of one’s identity,” concluded the vice-president of TusciaPride, once again inviting the Viterbo community to participate in the event.
