Flooding, roads interrupted by landslides, mudslides and inconveniences in Emilia Romagna following the bad weather that has been affecting the entire region since yesterday evening. The most critical situations are recorded in the territory it includes Savignano sul Panaro, in the province of Modena, e Valsamoggiain the Bolognese area. Thousands of people are without drinking water since yesterday evening due to breakages in the aqueduct which caused an interruption in the supply. The affected area is that of Serravalle CastleValsamoggia, municipality of almost 5 thousand inhabitants.
“A water distribution point was organized in the town hall square – he tells ANSA Daniele Ruscignomayor of Valsamoggia -. We expect that most of the water supply should restart in the evening“. Hera technicians are at work. “It recently stopped raining – continues Ruscigno – we were at work all night and we can already count damages amounting to several million.”
In the area, some roads are still closed, and work is underway to reopen schools tomorrow. “There were no injuries and only a couple of private homes were flooded on the lower floors – says the mayor – More than anything the water has invaded several secondary roads and there are several landslides, which we are also evaluating because some are still moving” . The most critical situation, the mayor reports, is in the Rio Marzatore area, where “a large piece of the road has come away”. Here an electricity pylon collapsed with its cable in the middle of the road. “The rest is coming back under control.”
An inspection by the regional councilor Irene Priolo and the regional Civil Protection also ended on site.
Hundreds of interventions by the Fire Brigade also in Savignano sul Panaro between yesterday and today. Firefighters are working on one landslide which prevents access to some homes. Several trees also fell as the land subsided. A team is working to clear the road also with the support of an operating machine. In Savignano the restaurant is still closed provincial road 37, on the border with the territory of the Province of Bologna, which has been closed since yesterday evening due to flooding. The technicians of the Province of Modena are working to restore the safety and passability conditions of the road. The hope is to reopen it by today evening. An intervention by the regional Civil Protection is also expected to clean the waterways affecting the road axis.
Dozens of requests to the firefighters arrived from the provinces of Piacenza, Parma and Reggio Emilia, mostly the firefighters intervened due to water damage, drying up and unsafe trees.
